Bayer Leverkusen – Rangers

Bayer Leverkusen are already touching the 1/4-finals of Europa League and they know this very well. On Thursday Die Werkself will host Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers in a second leg from the 1/8-finals of the competition. And they are very close to the next phase.

In the first leg Bayer Leverkusen graced the Ibrox and stunned the hosts with a 3-1 win on Scottish land. Leverkusen’s brightest star Kai Havertz opened the score for the Germans, while Aranguiz and Bailey finished the job for the former Champions League finalists. Edmundson scored for Rangers, but we have a feeling that his goal just won’t be enough for Steven Gerrard’s team to progress.

Rangers’ manager Steven Gerrard said to the press that his team will fight until the end on Thursday. Rangers need to score at least three goals at the BayArena to progress. It’s never easy to score three times on German soil, but the Scottish team do not have any other option at the moment – they have to try.

Rangers started with a win their participation in the Scottish Premiership 2020/21 season. The Blues paid a visit to Aberdeen and secured a 1-0 win. Ryan Kent scored the only goal in the game in the 21th minute.

For Bayer Leverkusen this is going to be a first game since their 2-4 defeat against Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal final. The German side finished 5th in the Bundesliga, so winning Europa League is their only chance of qualifying to the Champions League.

In our preview we can say that Bayer Leverkusen are very, very close to the Europa League 1/4-finals. Peter Bosz’ team just needs to finish the job against Rangers on Thursday. Die Werkself already made the first step, now they must make the second one.
